Love it. Just when you’re falling into a little pity pit (we won’t go into why, other than to say that events of the last two days make me want to live in the middle of nowhere and be left alone) the universe drops a shiny little gift-let in your lap. Funny how that works if you’re paying attention.

Now this may not seem like much to you but it’s a little nugget of happiness to me. You’ll recall me mentioning how hard it is to find rhubarb here in LA. Note:  Hmm. I thought I mentioned it here, maybe I was just dreaming…? Whatever. It is.

Today Joanne, over at Eats Well With Others mentioned in today’s post, the lack of rhubarb at her Whole Foods in NYC and her dismay at this little void. But, again the universe seems to have cut in and where rhubarb “should” have been, she found ramps! It’s a delightful post about the serendipity of life.

She impulsively loaded the beauties into her cart with no idea what to use them in and was almost to the point of regret upon arriving home when out of nowhere the most wonderful recipe appeared. Don’t you just love it when little silver linings banish the negative berating that our minds often fall prey to?

You must go over there and take a look. The recipe is so delicious looking that I immediately (yes, didn’t even finish reading the rest of her post) picked up the phone and dialed my nearest Whole Foods! Okay, so impulsiveness can apparently be contagious! Did they have any ramps?  😦  No. The last batch in was yellow with a bit of mold so the produce guy said that was probably the end for the season which is short and had been spotty to begin with.

Bummer! But I immediately thought of rhubarb, inquiring about its availability. Yes, they had plenty, in fact, he confided it was a real steal right now. Continuing, he noted that normally it’s $6.99 to $8.99 a pound. Then, as if he couldn’t help himself, he let it slip that the current price was…gasp…only $2.99. Holy cow! Guess where I’m going tomorrow!  🙂

So here we are on two different coasts, each getting what the other originally wanted! Life is such a wonder it makes me smile and want to laugh.
