too funny… Heaven only knows what was.
sitting here and listening to re-runs of Fraisier and totally enjoying the Seattle rain,
Now I forgot what I was writing about …:(
it wasn’t worth remembering, I guess, as my mom would say. Miss her dearly.
Probably the radical amount of rain we (LA) have had.
But it’s like this every 5 yrs. or so…it’s just that no one remembers and of course the NEWS is in heaven since there’s something to report about…aka drought.
The spacing on WordPress is nuts!
Had the nicest week here, weather-wise! Actually chilly. This is my birthday week so it was a real treat. On Friday, my birthday, I received the nicest present…rain. Lovely slow-falling, rain. It was so nice and grey all day, perfect weather for sleeping in. When you get beaming sun morn to night, you really learn to appreciate “May Gray”. So I gave myself the gift of sleeping as long as I wanted. Delicious!
My childhood friend, S, called to wish me happy B-day around 5 pm. And since I have a million rollover minutes, we talked for a good hour. My brother, Rusty, sent an email. He can be such a disappointment sometimes. But, whatever.
My dinner was a frozen Lean Cuisine Fettuccini Prima Vera. So, so. Kind of watery, fyi. Should have gone with the bag of salad I had in the fridge, but oh well. Had the salad today with grape tomatoes and Marie’s Chunky Blue Cheese dressing…mmm.
Found a strange link when looking for an image to put into this post. You can write your name or a friend’s on an assortment of Birthday cakes and send it to them. Not the cake, just the image, like this:
This is a good thing since the odds of me baking a cake are zero. Lol!
To anyone else who had a birthday this last week, Happy Birthday to you!
Holy Cow!!! It’s RAINING!!!!! Yay!
It was predicted but I really doubted it based on the weather so far! It’s a miracle. Doesn’t matter how little, just the fact we got some water on the ground…YAY!!!
So, it’s not pouring, but hey! Rain! Free water from the sky is falling in an even flow!!!
And, yes, it’s something to get excited about. In the middle of a horrid drought. Yes!
I know, it won’t fix the drought, not by a very long shot, but any bit of water is such a blessing!
Okay, well that was quick and passing. Like 25 minutes…:( But hey, RAIN!
Yes, today is my birthday. It’s also Sigmund Freud’s birthday. All day. Nothing special going on. Making Fagioli Neri Italiani for din-din. Yum. Was surprised to open the Google homepage and find a graphic that said “Happy Birthday Christine”. This is the graphic:
Pretty cool heh? My brother sent me a floral bouquet. Purple and green flowers. Mmmm 🙂 Will photograph it tomorrow, it’s super overcast today so not a lot of light to work with. Anyway, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday to me!
Tomorrow I’ll probably make Curried Cream of Asparagus soup in lieu of a birthday cake. Yum! I ordered asparagus with my groceries yesterday. Also got half and half to try in the soup instead of heavy cream. Can’t wait. And in honor of my B-day, I’m putting no restrictions on how much soup I can consume. 🙂
Had a rather rough Easter weekend (more about that later). But over the last week, I got to thinking, I’ve been remiss in not telling you about our weather of late. My sincere apologies if you’re still swamped with snow. But since I complain here, on a regular basis, about the rotten hot weather, I wanted you to know how nice it’s been for a change. It reminds me of why I moved to California from Chicago ages ago.
For the last three weeks we’ve had absolutely stunningly, beautiful spring weather! It’s been in the 70’s and low 80’s and is such an absolute gift when you’re facing a colossal drought and a potentially hideous seven months of summer to come. Plus it’s actually been cold (like 50 to 55F) (10 to 12.7C) at night which is what makes this weather turn out so lovely.
This morning was so beautiful with a lovely cloudy sky. Supposedly we’re going to get rain tomorrow…hopefully.
Later in the day: well, it did rain, though very softly, but I’ll take all we can get. Oh, about the weekend. I’d been insanely dizzy for about one and a half weeks but Saturday was just scary. Kept “listing” to the right for some reason. No idea why. Thus I lost my balance at one point in the evening and fell. While trying to get to the bed to haul myself up (remember, no cartilage in my knees so I can’t kneel) I became entangled in the oriental rug. Surprisingly easy to do, oddly enough. The room is also small so there’s only about a foot of space between the bed and the wall to maneuver and my feet were under the bed.
Anyhow, after 45 minutes, I gave up and called the fire department for help getting untangled. Of course by then my blood pressure was through the roof and the dizziness was no better. The paramedics insisted I go to the ER which involved an ambulance ride (goodbye $2000) because they felt I might be having a stroke.
Well, a fortune in tests and twelve hours later, nothing. They didn’t find a thing. 😦 I mean, I’m glad it wasn’t anything serious but what a waste of money…my health insurance deductible started over on January 1 of this year so the first $11,000 in bills is “on me”. Thus the weekend was not so great.
The magic of distance and friendship.
This is a photo taken by my penpal/friend of many, many years, Heleen. It’s from the terrace of her home in the old double-walled city of Amersfoort.
Growing up, my mom always made sure I was in the Brownies and Girl Scouts since I was quite shy. At one meeting the troop assistant asked if anyone was interested in a penpal. Well of course, everyone clamored for a name. However she only had one.
You see, she had requested a penpal from some service at her college, but received a little girl instead of a college-age teen like herself. Since our troop was mostly ten year olds, the assistant decided to raffle the name off. She had us guess a number between 1 and 30. I picked 21 and luckily “won” Heleen.
We have had the remarkable good fortune to stay in touch and even visit each other quite a few times. She is a well-known architect in the Netherlands. Being an artist myself, we get along very well. In fact, even if we haven’t seen each other in years, we can just pick up like time stood still. It’s a very rare gift that I feel privileged to enjoy. I’m very fortunate.
Wishing you magic and a very merry Christmas!
Living on a reasonably busy street that is also the main route when emergency vehicles need to rush from one end of town to the other, I’ve grown used to the pretty constant noise of cars. But to illustrate just how long we’ve gone without regular rainfall I was shocked today at just how much wet roads amplify tire noise. Yes, shocked.
Ordinarily it’s just a kind of white noise that one gets used to and ignores. But as I sit here today typing, it sounds like the cars have snow tires on. Very strange.
We’re still enjoying a nice, even, soft rain. Very much like the kind we enjoyed all day last Friday which lasted well into the night. And like Monday and Tuesday. Today’s precipitation seems to be the same kind of medium, not heavy rain. It’s been falling pretty much all day. This is a really good thing since too much of a downpour would cause landslides in all the areas that had wildfires this last year.
I took a look at yesterday’s post and was surprised to find the falling snow flakes that I had turned on in WordPress last year had returned! They really help with the holiday mood. That or I’m just easily amused. Probably the latter.
On that note, I’ll share with you some interesting links I’ve come across. The first is QuizSocial.com. I just took a test to see if I could pass the test to become a U.S. citizen. I got 8 out of 10 so I passed.
You could try “how well do you Disney movies” (apparently I don’t know Disney well, only got a 4) or “which classic Hollywood beauty are you” (I got Marilyn Monroe) or “how old is your soul“. I did ace “how sharp is your memory” so it’s not all bad. The only thing I’d like is to know what the “right” answers were when I got one wrong.
Next, a link that will put a smile on your face. I did for the participants.
There’s also this link, it’s a Friskies commercial but I think it’s pretty well done.
And lastly, I apologize if this is a repeat, it just is really sweet and magical.
I thought of the title for this post, when I ran across the clip from Dirty Harry, where Clint Eastwood utters the rather infamous phrase “Go ahead, make my day” and thought this would be an appropriate positive twist. A few posts ago, I mentioned possibly putting some of the amazing and heartwarming videos and images that I’ve run across, up on my blog to share with you.
Please note that I am not advocating for or promoting any group, etc., I just think good thoughts and positive feelings shared amongst us could make this whole planet better for everyone and everything. These images and videos come from many different sources. For example the first one below is a life insurance commercial but you’d never know it. Sometimes things are just too good not to pass around.
Okay, now for a cuteness overload. Not a video but it will make getting through Monday much easier. Promise. Here’s a sample:
Keep this image in your mind and life may not be all soft and cuddly, but you’ll tend to feel happier about any so-called problems. Just remember to ask yourself, “in five years will this (problem) really matter?”
And last up…you may need tissues, but in a very good way!
Hope you have an excellent beginning of the week. 🙂
